Building Better Project Communication: Practical Strategies for General Contractors and Subcontractors
Miscommunication is one of the leading causes of delays, disputes, rework, and lost productivity on construction projects. This interactive workshop explores how general contractors and subcontractors can strengthen communication throughout the project lifecycle. Participants will learn proven techniques for organizing project communications, improving coordination between teams, documenting critical information, and leveraging technology to support effective communication. Through real-world examples and practical exercises, attendees will leave with tools they can immediately apply to improve collaboration, reduce risk, and gain a more predictable outcome.
Participants will learn to:
- Identify common communication breakdowns between general contractors and subcontractors that contribute to project delays, disputes, rework, and productivity losses.
- Apply practical strategies for organizing and managing project communications to improve information flow and accountability throughout the project lifecycle.
- Evaluate methods for documenting critical project information, including decisions, directives, and coordination activities, to reduce risk and support successful project outcomes.
- Assess the role of technology and digital communication tools in enhancing collaboration, coordination, and transparency among project stakeholders
